I was privileged to be on Hornby Island during Herring Fishing season one March. The normally quiet beaches were suddenly filled with activity. The water turns white when the herring release their semen. Fleets of fishing boats suddenly appear. The beaches are also host to hundreds of birds and sealife, all waiting for tasty tidbits of herring and the roe.
